Excess Proceeds is any amount of funds over $150 remaining after the Treasurer and Tax Collector sells a tax-defaulted property and recovers the taxes, penalties and fees owed.
Suppose you were unable to meet the payment obligation of $5,000 that was owed to your local Treasurer and Tax Collector and they placed your property up for auction. After numerous bids during the auction, your property quickly gets sold for $105,000.
After the county collects the $5,000 that was owed to them for the delinquent taxes and fees, according to your state law, you are entitled to the excess proceeds in the amount of $100,000!
